This was an illustration I created for a brief for 'Amelia's Magazine'. It is based on 'That which we do not understand'- Spooky
For this brief I was instantly drawn to Voodoo. I am
fascinated by the culture and vibrant nature of the religion. My piece is
focused around the magic of voodoo and the tribal characteristics of its
history. I personally love the tribal patterns and mark making which is shown
on voodoo Queens and priestesses. Their clothes are highly decorated with
colours and different textures such as wood, plantation, feathers, paints, beads
and much more. These patterns have heavily inspired my own illustration and it
shows the burst of high spiritual energy that Voodoo exudes.
